Mini Aussiedoodles are a hybrid dog breed that comes from crossing a Miniature Australian Shepherd with a Miniature Poodle. Some have tighter curls like a Poodle, while others have the wavy, slightly shaggy look of an Aussie. Coat colors can vary widely, from solid black or chocolate to striking merle patterns and tri-color combos.

What Are Mini Aussiedoodles?

Mini Aussiedoodles are a hybrid dog breed that comes from crossing a Miniature Australian Shepherd with a Miniature Poodle. Because they’re a mix of two smart, high-energy breeds, Mini Aussiedoodles can end up looking a bit different from one another.

What color and size do Aussiedoodles come in?

Aussiedoodles come in all different shapes, sizes, and colors. We breed Toy, Mini, Moyen and Standard Aussiedoodles, we classify Toy Aussiedoodles as anything under 15 lbs, Minis are 15-30 lbs., Moyens are 30-40 lbs., and Standard Aussiedoodles are typically between 40-80 pounds (our biggest puppy is currently 81 pounds!!). They come in a wide variety of colors, including: black, black and white, red/chocolate, red/chocolate and white, cinnamon merle, blue merle, red merle, tri-color, sable, black and tan (phantom), cream, silver, parti, and brindle. With the wide range of colors that Aussiedoodles come in, it is always an exciting time when the puppies are arriving and we get to see what colors the puppies are! They also have the capability of having blue eyes, one of my favorite characteristics of the breed! Aussiedoodles have a typical life span of 10-12 years.

What Do Mini Aussiedoodles Like To Eat and How Much Do They Eat?

Mini Aussiedoodles are active little dogs with high energy levels, so they need a nutrient-dense, protein-rich diet to keep them fueled. Like most dogs,  that includes high-quality protein, healthy fats, and a mix of fruits and veggies for added vitamins and minerals.

When it comes to portion size, it depends on their age, size, and activity level, but a good rule of thumb is about 20 to 30 calories per pound of body weight per day. So, if your Mini Aussiedoodle weighs around 20 pounds, they’ll need about 400 to 600 calories a day, depending on how active they are. 

Aussiedoodle Breed History

The Aussiedoodle is one of the trendy ‘doodle’ cross breeds that sprang up near the end of the 20th century. We don’t know much about the hows and the whens of this breed’s birth but we know it probably occurred in the 1980s in the United States.  Because its parents (more on those characters later) are so intelligent, the aim was perhaps to create a super-intelligent dog with plenty of other wonderful inherited characteristics like companionship and obedience. Not for nothing is this breed considered the ‘Einstein’ of the dog world. We know a good deal more about the Mini Aussiedoodle’s parents than we do about the breed itself. 

The Mini Aussiedoodle is a cross between a Miniature Australian Shepherd and a Miniature Poodle. The latter has a far more extensive history than the former. Miniature Poodles go as far back as 500 years, being the result of a desire to create a smaller and lower-maintenance pet than a Poodle.  By contrast, the Miniature Australian Shepherd is a creation of the 60s — the product of the smallest Australian Shepherds being bred with one another, retaining the herding instinct of the larger dogs. It stands to reason that the Mini Aussiedoodle owes much of its character to its ancestors.

Aussiedoodle Training

Aussiedoodles love to play and to have a task to accomplish. Their quick-working brains might enjoy clicker training and, once they’ve mastered basic cues, learning more complicated tricks. Teaching your Aussiedoodle to stay, and come when called, is vital for pet parents. Otherwise, their strong herding instincts and urge to chase can put them in dangerous situations.

Miniature Aussiedoodle Health and Lifespan:

Mini Aussiedoodles are generally healthy dogs, and they usually live for 10 to 15 years. They inherit the best features of both their parent breeds, which often makes them healthier than purebreds. But like all breeds, they do have the potential to suffer certain health problems including hip issues and eye conditions as well as other generally inherited ones. Regular vet visits, a good diet, and lots of exercise are important to keep your Aussiedoodle Mini healthy.

Their teeth are also important to look after as small dogs like the Mini Aussie doodle can have dental issues. Regular brushing or dental chews will help their teeth stay clean.
